Behind every homeowner's \"we got the house!\" moment, there's an Underwriter who made the call. We're looking for a detail-obsessed, decision-driven professional to be the final checkpoint between our Loan Processors, borrowers, and closing — turning documented files into sound, approved loans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Underwrite Conventional, FHA, USDA and VA residential loans ensuring they comply with FNMA, FHLMC, Investor and Government agency guidelines
- Analyze employment profile, credit worthiness, asset documentation and other pertinent information
- Analyze property characteristics and all other information pertinent to credit and property decision
- Respond to product questions and scenarios with suitable answers
- Ensure compliance with underwriter standards
- Assist in training new underwriters
- Provide prompt and quality customer service both internally and externally by explaining credit decisions and offering alternative options when necessary
- Maintains quality, and production standards
- Adheres to set turnaround times for reviewing new submissions as well as resubmissions
- Exercise delegated underwriting authority (DE, SAR, VA/LAPP) to render final credit decisions within investor and agency guidelines
- Underwrite Non-QM and non-agency loan programs in accordance with investor overlays and program guidelines
- Review and clear conditions in a timely manner to support on-time closing and funding on the company’s warehouse lines
- Partner with Secondary Marketing and Post Closing to ensure loans are underwritten to meet investor purchase requirements and support timely loan sale and delivery
- Stay current on changes to Agency, FHA/VA/USDA, and investor guidelines, and communicate updates to processing and origination staff
- Identify and elevate potential fraud, misrepresentation, or compliance concerns in accordance with company policy
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, banking, or finance
- 2-5 years of recent underwriting experience in the mortgage industry.
- Proficiency in conventional, FHA and VA loans; experience with CHFA, USDA and 203k is a plus
- Basic understanding of underwriting requirements, governmental and agency requirements, terminology, and automated processing systems
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with mortgage software, such as Calyx Point, Encompass, Data Track or Empower
- DE, CHUMS, VA/SAR
- Experience with an independent mortgage banker or non-depository lender, preferred
