Job summary

HNE in Indiana is seeking a detail-oriented Payment Processing Specialist to accurately and efficiently process customer payments and related transactions.

You will maintain records, research payment exceptions, perform reconciliations, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues while ensuring timely processing and data integrity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0–1 years of related experience; 2–4 years preferred.
• Experience in payment processing, banking, financial services, loan servicing, or related field is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Fast and accurate data entry skills.
• Basic to intermediate Excel skills, including sorting, filtering, and working with data.
• Strong math and reconciliation skills.
• Ability to research issues, identify discrepancies, and determine appropriate solutions.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.

Responsibilities

• Process customer payments and payoff transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
• Reconcile payment transactions and ensure records are accurate.
• Process checks and other payment-related transactions.
• Set up and maintain electronic payment accounts.
• Research and resolve payment exceptions, discrepancies, and returned transactions.
• Review daily reports and follow up on items requiring additional attention.
• Process payment reversals and returned payments as needed.
• Scan and organize payment-related documents and correspondence.
• Open, review, and process incoming mail and payment-related items.
• Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in company systems.
• Analyze payment information and research discrepancies to identify and resolve issues.
• Assist with identifying the root cause of recurring payment issues and recommend solutions.
• Communicate with internal teams and external parties as needed to resolve payment-related questions.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
