Job summary

Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union in Aiken, SC seeks a Mortgage Loan Officer to originate residential loans and guide borrowers through the full loan process. You will assess applications, verify documents, and ensure compliance with policy and regulations while delivering exceptional member service.

You will build relationships with realtors and partners, explain loan options, and maintain clear, timely communication to secure smooth closings and a positive member experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in mortgage lending.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Active NMLS license.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and nurtures partnerships with realtors, developers, builders, and other Credit Union branches to drive mortgage business growth and retention.
• Meets with potential borrowers to explain various mortgage options, including portfolio, government, and conventional loans.
• Collects and verifies all necessary borrower information and documentation to complete loan applications accurately.
• Ensures compliance with all residential mortgage lending rules, regulations, and guidelines; provides required disclosures within regulatory timeframes.
• Maintains consistent and transparent communication with borrowers throughout the loan process, ensuring timely approvals and smooth closings.
• Participates in ongoing training to stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and to maintain required certifications.
• Performs all duties with integrity, confidentiality, and respect for borrowers and colleagues, ensuring a superior member experience.
• Represents the Credit Union at community events and professional associations to promote products and services and strengthen community ties.

Overview

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for originating mortgage loans by engaging with potential borrowers and guiding them through the loan process. This includes preparing, analyzing, and verifying mortgage loan applications for the purchase, construction, or refinancing of residential real estate. The role requires strict adherence to the Credit Union’s Loan Policy and Procedures while ensuring full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, laws, and agency requirements. The Mortgage Loan Officer must also deliver exceptional service to borrowers, maintaining a high level of professionalism and accuracy throughout the loan lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in mortgage lending.

• Must be proficient with computers, with Basic to Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be adaptable to the changes in the mortgage market.
• Must have an active NMLS license.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
