Merchantsbankal is seeking a detail-oriented Mortgage Closing Clerk to ensure accurate loan documents enter the system and that closing packages are prepared and delivered on time. You will coordinate with closing attorneys, ensure HUD-1 accuracy, and disburse funds per established procedures.

The role requires mortgage lending exposure, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining compliance and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1–3 years of related experience in mortgage lending.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; high proficiency in Excel; and Loan Origination software.

Responsibilities

  • Review approved mortgage loans to determine conditions that must be met prior to closing.
  • Enter required information into the mortgage system to complete documents for closing.
  • Contact appropriate sources for missing documentation such as tax or hazard insurance.
  • Verify accuracy of documents including title abstract and insurance forms.
  • Prepare closing packages and deliver to settlement agents.
  • Review HUD-1 statements and coordinate corrections per policies.
  • Disburse loan proceeds by wire or check promptly.
  • Prepare and distribute daily closing reports to Management and Post Closing.
  • Assist Post Closing with corrections and sending final documents to investors.

Job description

Responsible for ensuring accurate loan document information is entered into software and compiled, preparing mortgage loan closing packages, sending loan packages to closing attorneys, and disbursing loan funds through established procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews approved mortgage loans to determine conditions that must be met prior to closing are present.
  • Enters required information into the mortgage system to complete documents that will be sent to closing attorneys.
  • Contacts appropriate source for any missing documentation such as paid tax or hazard insurance policies.
  • Verifies accuracy and consistency of specification on documents, such as title abstract and insurance forms.
  • Prepares closing package according to product type, lock confirmation, and underwriting approval. Delivers closing package to settlement agent in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and approves HUD-1 settlement statement prepared by the closing agent and informs of any corrections or revisions required to comply with bank and investor policies.
  • Disburses loan proceeds by wire or check in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepares and distributes daily closing reports to Management and Post Closing.
  • Assists Post Closing staff to make corrections, obtain documentation needed, and send final documents to investors to ensure the loan purchase in a timely manner.

Education/Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required. One to three years of related experience required, including experience in mortgage lending.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; have a high proficiency in Excel spreadsheet software; and Loan Origination software.

Certificates and Licenses

Notary Public is helpful in this position.
