Job summary

Metuchen-Edison YMCA is seeking a School Age Child Care Counselor for Colonia, NJ, to support the after-school program with a focus on safety, guidance, and positive engagement for children aged in the program. The role supports arrival and dismissal routines and helps implement director-approved activities.

Under supervision of program leaders, you will model core values, manage attendance, and assist with program setup and materials. CPR/First Aid training is preferred and will be provided.

Qualifications

• Prefer 18+ years of age with experience working with children in a childcare or related setting.
• Ability to demonstrate skills in games, athletics, crafts, storytelling, songs, and be able to lend guidance and motivate children in their care.
• Ability to work as part of a team with a common goal of every afterschool care participant reaching their fullest potential.
• CPR and Standard First Aid preferred – will train.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.
• Be a role model for children in program, ensuring they thrive and grow.
• Assist with daily arrivals and dismissals, ensuring attendance records are accurate.
• Responsible for equipment and supplies of the program.
• Handle late-night responsibilities including room maintenance and sign-out procedures.
• Be aware of emergency procedures and implement quickly and safely.
• Report all accidents/incidents to supervisor and document properly.
• Supervise children during activities indoors and outdoors, including trips and playgrounds.
