Job summary

The City of Lynchburg is seeking a full-time custodian to deliver dependable custodial care across City facilities and provide excellent customer service. The role includes light security duties, basic maintenance reporting, and coordinating with internal and external customers.

Typical hours are 5:00 am to 1:30 pm with competitive benefits, including VRS retirement, paid time off, and medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Qualifications

• Education: 10th grade and some building cleaning experience or equivalent.
• Background checks required; IS100/IS700 training within 90 days of employment.
• Overtime may be required for snow removal and heavy cleaning.

Responsibilities

• Custodial cleaning in assigned buildings, including floors, carpets, restrooms, and fixtures.
• Assist in coordinating services with internal and external customers.
• Report repairs beyond custodial capabilities to supervisor or crew leader.
• Provide basic security duties such as locking/unlocking doors and monitoring alarms.
• Respond to emergencies and special requests from user agencies.
