JOB TITLE:

Veteran Trail Crew Member

JOB PURPOSE:

Participate and engage in conservation projects across the state of Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

AmeriCorps WCC Veteran Trail Crew Members will work in teams of six members with two crew leaders. Members will work cooperatively with and take direction from crew leaders and the Program Staff. Crew members will complete six, ten-day conservation projects around the state of Wyoming, living and working outdoors; crew members will also complete one week of orientation at the before the start of the first project. Members' responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, camping, cooking, work-related task completion, participating in environmental education, and group learning programs and various camp chores. Work projects are located throughout the state of Wyoming, working with state and federal land management agencies. Projects will include: trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration, development reclamation, construction, scientific survey, and various agricultural projects. Crew members will be required to fulfill a total hourly commitment over the course of the term of service (May-August). Crew members will be enrolled in a one upper-division credit WCC class through the University of Wyoming. Completion of this course and fulfillment of hourly commitments through training, projects, and some travel are required in order to be eligible to receive the AmeriCorps Education Award. Crew members will complete a variety of trainings and orientations for the WCC program and its AmeriCorps affiliation. Trainings include a required 16-hour Wilderness First Aid course at no cost to the participant. This is a drug and alcohol free position with zero tolerance. AmeriCorps members will be supervised by WCC staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: None
Other requirements: Pass FBI background check, ability to lift 50 lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation, must have a DD214
