Job summary

Detroit Public Schools Community District is seeking a Montessori teacher to deliver a rigorous curriculum aligned with Michigan standards and the district’s mission. You will collaborate with families, teachers and staff to ensure student success and regularly monitor progress.

The role requires a valid Michigan teaching credential, a bachelor’s degree, and MACTE credential or willingness to train in 2026. This is a school-based, in-person position within the Detroit area.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA) and proper endorsements.
• Must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; higher degrees may qualify for salary differential.
• Must possess the MACTE accredited credential or be willing to train during the 2026 summer.

Salary: DFT Salary Schedule ($55,000- $94,000)

In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary

Montessori Teachers offerrigorous curriculum aligned with the State of Michigan Common Core guidelines while upholding the mission, vision and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students. Evaluates and monitors students’ progress on a periodic basis.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA),Lower Elementary Education (PK-3) (ZO), Upper Elementary Education (3-6) (ZP),K-5 All Subjects; K-8 All Subjects Self-Contained Classrooms (ZG), K-8 All Subjects (ZC), or General Elementary K-6 (ZE)endorsement
• Must possess and provide evidence of abachelor’s degreefrom an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent agency.
  • Successful candidates who possess degrees beyond abachelor’s degreewill be eligible for the appropriate salary differential.
• Must possess the MACTE accredited credential or be willing to train during the 2026summer (or equivalent time frame as applicable).

Essential Functions

• Cooperate with teachers, parents and community members.
• Enhance teaching team practice and grow professionally.
• Offer rigorous curriculum aligning with Montessori guidelines.
• Provide alternative force choice and creative assessment for students.
• Enable field studies to improve classroom curriculum.
• Offer input and assist grade level, subject matter and leader led conferences.
• Oversee school uniform ad discipline policies.
• Develop parent and family involvement in school life and curriculum.
• Engage and lead professional development programs.
• Offer individual help to students to ensure satisfactory progress.
• Synthesize with colleagues on school activities to ensure academic success.
• Discuss with parents on student progress and academic achievements.
• Instruct rules of conduct and ensure classroom and campus discipline.
• Counsel students during academic and adjustment problems.
• Handle attendance, progress reports and grade records.
• Plan study programs to meet students’ needs, interests and abilities.
• Design curriculum as per the needs of the students.
• Evaluate and assess students’ progress on a periodic basis.
• Monitor individual student’s progress.
• Take corrective measures to enhance student-learning abilities
• Instruct students on proper use of equipment, materials, and textbooks.
• Maintain inventory of instructional materials, aids and equipment.
• Maintain accurate complete student records and prepare reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
