Job Description

Responsible for monitoring the heart rhythm pattern of patients in the special care unit of a hospital to detect abnormal variances using telemetry equipment.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm patterns, current patterns, and prior variances.
  2. Observes the screen of the cardiac monitor and listens for alarms to identify abnormal variations in heart rhythm.
  3. Informs the supervisor or General Duty Nurse of variances to initiate patient examination.
  4. Measures the length and height of the patient's heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout using calipers, and records this information on patient records.
  5. Responds to calls for assistance from patients and inquiries from medical staff regarding patients.
  6. Prepares documentation regarding evaluation results, progress reports, and personalized treatment plans.
  7. Performs relevant duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of Basic Arrhythmia course
  • Ability to pass telemetry pre-test

Preferred:

  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience as a Monitor Tech and/or recent clinical experience is preferred.
