HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT

Your Role:

  • Continuous surveillance and accurate interpretation of the electrical conduction of the heart (EKG) for an assigned group of patients admitted to any of our nine MedSurg units.
  • Responsible for immediately communicating significant changes from the patients’ baseline heart rhythm or telemetry reception to appropriate nursing staff in real time.
  • Successfully pass an in-depth arrhythmia-specific test with an 80% or better and not miss any lethal rhythms using caliper measurements.

Candidate Must Be Able to:

  • Demonstrate ongoing competency to accurately interpret cardiac rhythm tracings.
  • Possess perceptual speed to quickly recognize changes in monitor patterns.
  • Communicate in a clear and effective way in oral and written communications.
  • Maintain attentiveness to cardiac rhythms.
  • Document information completely, accurately, and timely.
  • Activate emergency responses based on escalation protocol.
  • Possess troubleshooting skills to recognize monitoring problems, identify probable causes, and seek solutions to correct the problem.
  • Detail pertinent patient telemetry issues to incoming shifts.
  • Assist in orienting and training new staff.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and courteously, identifying self and responding to requests.

NOTE: Rhythm Interpretation class and on-the-job training are provided. Candidates are required to test to verify proficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO APPLY

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of cardiac arrhythmia interpretation program and passing an in-depth arrhythmia-specific test using caliper measurements and evaluation of rhythm changes over time using full disclosure.

Required Experience:

  • No previous experience is necessary.
  • Computer skills/training.

Preferred Experience:

  • One (1) to two (2) years of job-related experience; must be able to recognize, evaluate, and interpret heart rhythm changes and perform the duties of a unit secretary. Computer skills/training required.
