Under the supervision of a RN, the Monitor Technician monitors, recognizes, and interprets cardiac rhythms, identifying deviations in patients' baseline and changes in SP02. The Technician notifies the RN of changes and initiates emergency responses for lethal arrhythmias, including irregular heart rhythms and cardiac arrest.
Accountability, Customer Service, Patient and Family Centered Care, Patient Safety, Problem Solving, Responding to Change, Standards of Behavior, Telemetry Monitoring and Interpretation.
Requires critical thinking, effective communication, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and telemetry services is essential. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and handle interruptions. Minimum 6 months of experience post-externship or equivalent, with Monitor Technician certification and ECG interpretation coursework completed.
