Responsibilities

  • Support efficient operations of the nursing unit with reception, transcription, medical records, and clerical duties.
  • Maintain ECG monitoring baseline, detect dysrhythmias, and alert nursing staff.
  • Record and report rhythm strips at scheduled times; monitor and document patient rhythm changes.
  • Notify ICU/PCU clinical leads of dangerous dysrhythmias and significant changes.
  • Complete validation checklist ensuring monitors are allocated and labeled.

Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities

Support efficient operations of the nursing unit. Utilize skills in reception, transcription, maintaining medical records and clerical duties. Other duties as assigned.

RhythmStrip Interpretation

TheMonitorTech(MT)willmaintainabaselinelevelofECGmonitoringforallorderedpatients,detectandalert nursing staff to significant dysrhythmias, and perform continuous monitoring and intermittent recording on patients in crisis.

  1. Respondpromptlytomonitoralarmsandtakesappropriate action.
  2. Record,interpret,postandreportrhythmsonallmonitoredpatientsatthescheduledtimesandas needed.
  3. Recognizedangerousdysrhythmiasandpromptlynotifytheappropriatenursecaringforthepatientand the ICU/PCU Clinical Lead assigned to the patient.
  4. Recognizesignificantrhythmchanges,recordthem,andnotifytheICU/PCUClinicalLeadassignedtothe patient.
Patient Management and Disposition
  1. GivereporttooncomingMT,reflectingthelast12hoursofpatientactivity.
  2. Runrhythmstrips,identifyrhythm,anddelivertoappropriateICU/PCUClinicalLeadassignedtothe patient.
  3. TheMTwillinitialeach strip.
  4. TheMTwillmaintainaflowsheetdocumentingeachpatient’srhythmandectopyoverthecourseoftheday. Documentation to be every eight hours.
  5. AllcontinuingartifactsshouldbeinvestigatedbytheMTandadjustmentsmadeasneeded.
  6. TheMTwillperformroutineandtroubleshootingactivitiesrelatedtoequipmentmaintenance,equipment checks, and report any malfunctions to the ICU/PCU designated Charge Nurse.
  7. Completethevalidationchecklistassuringallmonitorsareallocatedandlabeled accurately.
