Job summary

Adventist HealthCare's White Oak Medical Center in Maryland is seeking a Monitor Technician to document rhythm on EKG flow sheets and promptly report any rhythm changes to the nurse. You will obtain strips on irregularities and maintain monitoring for assigned patients, ensuring the telemetry console operates safely and alarms are active.

The role includes shift coverage on days, with three 12-hour shifts per week, and participation in multidisciplinary quality teams to improve patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience with emergency situations and continuous strips required.
  • Completion of Monitor Technician Program within 6 months of hire.
  • Active BLS certification required.
  • Dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Document rhythm on EKG flow sheet and report changes to the nurse.
  • Obtain strips on irregularities and maintain monitored patients.
  • Maintain charge requisitions and ensure safe operation of the Monitoring Console.
  • Notify nursing staff when new patients are connected or electrodes require replacement.
  • Monitor the telemetry console and verify alarms are enabled.
  • Record monitor strips with date and time and file on flow sheet.
  • Participate in quality and service improvement teams.
  • Provide verbal handoffs to relief staff and patient reports to oncoming techs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Monitor Technician, You Will
  • Document rhythm on EKG flow sheet. Immediately reports any change in cardiac rhythm to the nurse.
  • Obtains strips on irregularities.
  • Maintain charge requisitions on monitored patients
  • Make nursing personnel aware of need for replacement of patient electrodes and/or newly monitored patients to be connected.
  • Maintain safe and effective operation of the Monitoring Console at all times.
  • Ensures that paper loaders are full.
  • Monitor assigned telemetry console.
  • Obtains monitor strips at the start of each shift, interprets strip, puts date and time on each strip, and places it on flow sheet.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Provides a verbal report to relief persons and gives a patient report to oncoming technicians.
  • Verify and adjusts alarm limits as established for the levels appropriate to the individual patient.
  • Verify alarms are on at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Include
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1-year experience with emergency situations and maintaining continuous strips of cardiac rhythms and or at least one (1) year of acute clinical experience required.
  • Completion of the Monitor Technician Program within 6 months of hire
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation - strongly preferred
Work Schedule
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours per week (three 12 hour shifts)
  • Typical Daily Schedule: 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
  • Shift Type: Days
  • Weekend Requirements: Required, every other weekend rotation
  • Holiday Requirements: Required to follow unit holiday calendar

Pay Range

$19.21 - $24.90
