SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The responsibilities of the monitor technician include continuous observation of patient heartbeat patterns, noting heartbeat irregularities in the patients? telemetry rhythm, ensuring that heart monitors are functioning correctly, and reporting any concerns to the RN in charge of the patient/charge nurse. Possess troubleshooting skills to recognize monitoring the problems, identify probable causes, and seek solutions to correct the problem.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • AHA BLS Required prior to end of orientation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Six (6) Months of Monitor Tech or ED experience, heart arrhythmia course completion, or current nursing student.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
