Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, The Monitor Technician performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. This position will be responsible for monitoring patients’ vital signs remotely through telemetry systems in a centralized monitoring station. The ideal candidate will ensure continuous surveillance of patient data, promptly identifying and responding to any abnormalities to ensure patient safety and timely intervention. The role requires working three 12-hour shifts, including occasional weekends and holidays. Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent GED required. Monitor tech must complete a supervised orientation and competency test with passing score of 90% at end of orientation and annually thereafter. Proof of successful completion of Dysrhythmia course and EKG exam prior to completion of orientation required. Successfully pass a written and didactic examination at the completion of orientation and annually thereafter required. Minimum one (1) year of experience in healthcare with previous telemetry monitoring experience and/or equivalent education in telemetry monitoring and reading preferred. One (1) – two (2) years of ECG or related healthcare experience, knowledge of medical terminology and cardiac pathophysiology preferred. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider within first two weeks of employment required. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking continuously; climbing stairs infrequently; working indoors continuously and outside in temperature extremes infrequently; working from elevated areas frequently; working in confined/cramped spaces frequently; performing various physical activities including bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, grasping, reaching, repetitive motions, lifting and carrying weights up to 50 lbs unassisted; maintaining vision and hearing acuity; dealing effectively with stressful situations; working rotating shifts and overtime as required; working in a latex safe environment; maintaining tactile sensory functions and other selected physical qualifications.
