Job summary

McLeod Health is seeking a Telemetry/Monitor Tech to support nursing care by assessing cardiac rhythms and ensuring patient safety on the telemetry unit. You will monitor EKG rhythms, document findings, and maintain monitoring equipment, including remote monitoring as needed.

The role requires completion of an EKG course and a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience). You will work under RN supervision to recognize critical rhythms and escalate as required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an EKG course is required.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred; in lieu of diploma, 1 year of related experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the patient’s EKG rhythms and alert the nurse to changes in cardiac rate or rhythm.
• Document EKG rhythms in the medical record or other records.
• Maintain monitoring equipment in good working order.
• Monitor patients via remote monitoring.
• Redirect patients to prevent falls and ensure safety.
• Recognize lethal arrhythmias and respond appropriately.
• Demonstrate competency on the Telemetry Unit according to the competency checklist.

Responsibilities:

• Supports the nursing process through the consent of the cardiac rhythm of patients assigned to telemetry monitoring.
• Monitor the patient’s EKG rhythms, alerting the Nurse to changes in cardiac rate of rhythm.
• Document EKG rhythms for patients assigned on the medical record, or other records.
• Maintain monitoring equipment in good working order.
• Monitor patients via remote monitoring
• Redirect patients to keep free from falls
• Recognize lethal and life‑threatening arrhythmias and respond appropriately.
• Demonstrates competency in, but not limited to, the following on the Telemetry Unit (refer to McLeod Health Organizational Learning Competency Checklist):
• Assigned Access Control Applications
• Emergency Management
• Environment
• Safety
• Infection Control/Precautions
• Communication
• Procedures
• Provide an environment that demonstrates caring, compassion, and respect for all patients, families, and visitors.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Completion of an EKG course required.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred. In lieu of high school diploma or GED, a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field may be considered.
