Job Objective:
The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.

The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
- Measures and interprets patient heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards.
- Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry.
- Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
- Orients and mentors new staff members. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both Central Telemetry and clinical areas.
- Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Clinical Engineering as appropriate.
- Gives report to oncoming shift.
- Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations.
- Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Clinical Engineering.
- Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors.
- Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.
- Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of AVH.
- Performs other duties as requested.

Education and Experience:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of the Basic Dysrhythmia test with a minimum of 90% accuracy, identifying all lethal rhythms with 100% accuracy.
Experience
- Minimum one year experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Previous Monitor Tech experience greater than one year preferred
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health care Providers
- Maintain annual competences including successful completion of the annual monitor tech skills test
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work often performed under demanding, emotional, and physical conditions. Accepts additional workload during times of unexpected circumstances (e.g., high activity, high census, and sudden emergencies).
