Job summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a Telemetry/ECG monitor technician to observe patient rhythms on assigned shifts and notify nursing staff of changes. You will prepare and maintain nursing unit records and ensure lead placement accuracy.

Responsibilities include posting rhythm strips, assisting during code blues, testing equipment, and maintaining a clean work area while following Kaiser Permanente policies and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of arrhythmia updates within 2 years if prior class is older.
• Formal EKG arrhythmia class with a minimum of 20 hours.
• Schedule includes all shifts, weekends, holidays, and floating within seniority rules.

Job description

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, performs arrhythmia or ECG monitor observations on assigned shift and communicates changes to the nursing staff.

Essential Responsibilities

• Obtain, compile, prepare and maintain records for the nursing unit assigned.
• Observe cardiac rhythm of patients on monitor.
• Run and post rhythm strips at designated intervals.
• Assists in initiating code blues.
• Interpret rhythms and validate computer readout.
• Collaborates with RN to verify lead placement on patients.
• Compare posted strip to previous strip and notify nursing staff of changes. Notify nursing staff of any changes in cardiac rhythm.
• Place patient identification sticker on monitor.
• Recognize and respond to unusual or abnormal patient conditions.
• Clean equipment after each patient use. Equipment includes cardiac (ECG) monitor, telemetry transmitter (delivered by PCA,) central monitor bank and arrhythmia analysis/printer.
• Test equipment for proper working order, ensure that equipment is in good working condition. Report equipment problems to supervisor.
• Maintain work area clean and orderly.
• Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of arrhythmia update within the last two years if basic arrhythmia class taken over two years ago. Successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente basic arrhythmia assessment test with a score of 80% or better.
• Formal EKG arrhythmia class with a minimum of 20 hours.
