Job summary

UF Health Flagler Hospital in Saint Augustine, FL is seeking a Monitor/EMU Technician to continuously monitor EKG rhythms, produce rhythm strips, and manage EMU equipment. Responsibilities include recognizing dysrhythmias, notifying the nurse of changes, and documenting seizure activity for telemetry patients.

The role requires a GED or high school diploma, completion of an EKG/dysrhythmia course within 90 days, and relevant certification within 6 months. PRN schedule, on-site hospital setting.

Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma required.
• Must complete an EKG/Dysrhythmia course within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred: PCA, Medic Corpsman, or a nursing student who has completed first clinical rotation.
• Within 6 months of hire, attend unit-based courses related to the specialized area.

Responsibilities

• Monitor EKG rhythms and immediately notify the nurse of pertinent changes.
• Produce rhythm strips for telemetry patients.
• Inventory and maintain EMU equipment in the monitor bank and patient units.
• Observe EMU therapy patients, recognize seizure activity, and document it accordingly.
• Notify RN of seizure activity and maintain EMU equipment.

The Monitor/EMU Tech continuously monitors EKG rhythms. The monitor tech is responsible for recognizing dysrhythmias. The monitor tech is to immediately notify the nurse of pertinent changes in the patient's heart rate and rhythm. The monitor tech is responsible for producing rhythm strips for telemetry patients. The monitor tech inventories and maintains equipment for both the main monitor bank and individual patient units. The monitor tech continuously observes all patients on EMU therapy, recognizes different types of seizure activity, and documents it accordingly. The monitor tech notifies the RN of any seizure activity and maintains EMU equipment in EMU room.

Qualifications

Required Education: GED or High School Diploma Specific course work: Monitor Technicians must successfully complete an EKG/Dysrhythmia course within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Education: PCA, Medic Corpsman, or a nursing student having completed the first clinical rotation successfully

Required Licensure/Certifications: Within 6 months of hire, must attend unit-based courses relative to specialized area.

Required Experience: Less than one year of related experience

Preferred Experience: One year or more working in a health care environment as a monitor technician

• Ability to read EKG arrhythmias.
• Demonstrates the essential knowledge necessary to effectively monitor patients for seizure activity connected to an Epilepsy Monitor (EMU)
