Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s is seeking a Monitor Tech for the Burnet Campus on the A3S unit. This part-time position (12 hours weekly, 0.3 FTE) covers day shifts and regular status. You will support live monitoring, respond to changes, and assist with patient care as directed by the RN.

Starting pay range is $17.49–$20.99 per hour, based on experience and equity; additional pay such as shift, on-call, or weekend differentials may apply, with annual pay varying by FTE status.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND NLN or CCNE-accredited nursing program student OR Ohio STNA registry listed OR Ohio CNA (reciprocity within 180 days) if CNA in another state.
  • Requires CPR training and maintenance of certification.
  • Completion of Cincinnati Children’s Monitor Tech Class with passing score on written exam and competency demonstration

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients continuously and accurately recognize actionable conditions; report changes to caregiver per algorithm guidelines.
  • Communicate actionable conditions or safety risks to the RN/RT and provide clear handoffs during shift changes.
  • Assist with patient care as delegated by the RN; help with transport, admissions, discharges, and maintain supplies and a clean, organized environment.

Expected Starting Pay Range: $17.49 - $20.99 per hour. Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on‑call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor: Continuously observe and accurately recognize actionable conditions; reliably detect changes from patient baseline and report changes to the caregiver. Utilize the algorithm in response to monitor interpretation; document change and action taken per algorithm guidelines.
  • Communication: Promptly and effectively communicate actionable conditions or impending safety risks to the RN/RT; provide a clear and concise handoff to peers during shifts and at change of shift.
  • Patient Care: Perform patient care interventions as delegated by the RN; assist with patient transport; assist with room setup for admissions and room breakdown for discharges; maintain adequate supplies in PPE cabinets and nurse servers; maintain a clean and organized environment following relevant guidelines; monitor patients via live video feed and physiologic waveforms; follow the algorithm to notify staff of urgent or emergent situations; provide direct patient care as delegated by the nurse; provide environmental support through unit stocking, cleaning and organizing.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND
  • NLN or CCNE-accredited nursing program student OR listed on Ohio STNA registry OR Ohio CNA (reciprocity within 180 days if CNA is in another state) OR listed on Ohio Emergency Medical Services Registry
  • Completion of required Cincinnati Children’s orientation
  • Requires training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintenance of certification
  • Completion of the CCHMC-provided Monitor Tech Class with a passing score on written exam and competency demonstration
