The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. The PCA II is responsible for monitoring cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitor. The PCA II may assist patients with activities of daily living, provide basic nursing care to all patients, and assist in the maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the RN, as long as these activities do not distract from the primary responsibility of dysrhythmia monitoring.
