Job Description

The Monitor Technician observes the cardiac rhythm of patients in the assigned unit, assesses patients' status, and reports the patients' cardiac rhythm to medical/nursing staff. This position requires population-specific competencies.

Responsibilities
  1. Operates complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, computerized dysrhythmia detection system, and rhythm strip printers
  2. Maintains accurate, neat account of patients' cardiac monitoring status during episodes of care
  3. Identifies and records patient rhythm in patient log as appropriate
  4. Communicates report on pertinent patient/monitor data to/from appropriate colleagues
  5. During code situations, maintains contact with appropriate staff to assist with rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia detection
  6. Contacts biomedical engineering in a timely manner when the monitor equipment malfunctions
  7. Ensures and maintains proper operation and upkeep of monitoring equipment
  8. Reports to the Manager of Central Monitoring
  9. This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Please consult the Physical Demands Project SharePoint site or contact Risk Management/Employee Health for additional information.
  10. Consistently views monitor screens for up to four hours at a time (and up to 8 hours per day). No hazards.
