Job summary

Carondelet St. Josephs Hospital is seeking an Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician to perform cardiac monitoring and oversee electrode placement, data recording, and artifact correction.

You will work with telemetry systems and report abnormal findings to attending physicians, ensuring patient safety and data integrity. Experience as a Monitor Tech or related role is preferred, with a high school diploma or GED and basic EKG certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; basic EKG exam completed or planned.
• Previous experience as Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, Monitor Tech or Monitor Tech Trainee or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attaches, connects, and operates EKG electrodes and leads according to protocol.
• Monitors patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings to physician.
• Identifies artifacts and edits/forwards results for analysis.
• Maintains EKG equipment and supplies.
• Runs a strip per department protocol and maintains telemetry documentation.
• Notifies Biomed of equipment problems.
• Assists in training new Monitor Techs.

Position Summary

Performs various activities regarding electrocardiograms on patients requiring continual cardiac monitoring.

• Attaches, connects, and operates electrodes from specified body areas to leads from electrocardiograph machine or stress test machine.
• Reviews patient's record and instructs patients prior to procedures. Monitors patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings.
• Identifies and corrects for artifacts. Edits and forwards results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.
• Maintains EKG equipment and supplies.
• Runs a strip per department protocol. Maintains telemetry documentation of reported information.
• Notifies Biomed of any equipment problems.
• Assists in training new Monitor Techs.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). Completion of basic EKG examination if not already completed.
• Experience: Previous experience as Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, Monitor Tech or Monitor Tech Trainee. Or equivalent.

Preferred Requirements

• Education: One (1) year experience as Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, Monitor Tech, Monitor Tech Trainee in an acute healthcare setting.
• Certifications: Specialty areas Basic Life Support (BLS).
