Job summary

AdventHealth Ocala is seeking a Monitor Technician to support telemetry monitoring in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will observe EKG patterns, document findings, and communicate with nursing staff while maintaining alarms and patient safety; day shift with weekend coverage is possible.

The role requires strong technical skills, good communication, and a willingness to learn through ongoing training and adherence to policy.

Qualifications

  • Monitor technician experience or completion of AdventHealth Monitor Technician training.
  • Must read, write, and speak English.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Pleasant telephone manner and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with patients/public in difficult situations.
  • Completion of basic arrhythmias identification course in orientation.
  • Good oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple duties.
  • Familiar with medical terminology.
  • Ability to complete a competency check off list within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible workweek including weekends, nights, and overtime as required.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital nursing practices, telemetry, and infection control procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of computer use or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge to provide care addressing patient needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Accurate typing skills.
  • Neat handwriting.
  • Virtual Patient Observation training.
  • Verbal interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read/comprehend instructions.
  • Keyboarding and basic clerical skills.
  • Basic EKG class or equivalent knowledge.
  • Medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Documents in accordance with department policy and maintains telemetry logbook.
  • Observes monitors, recognizes and documents normal and abnormal EKG patterns, and notifies nursing staff of abnormalities.
  • Maintains monitor alarms per policy, ensures alarms are audible each shift, and troubleshoots monitors as needed.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities, documents activities, and supports quality standards.
  • Demonstrates a desire to learn and upgrade skills, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains telemetry printouts during cardiac arrest and as indicated.
  • Ensures effective communication with the healthcare team regarding patient status.
  • Assists in keeping a clean, organized work environment and proper sanitization of equipment.
  • Participates in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices.

Job Description
