Job summary

Prime Healthcare Services at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, TX seeks a Monitor Technician to monitor cardiac rhythms and support telemetry. The role is full-time with 12-hour day shifts and requires cooperation with nurses and physicians in a fast-paced unit.

Responsibilities include documenting orders when CPOE is unavailable and ensuring tests are completed. CNA-eligible candidates may assist under RN supervision, within scope of practice.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required for new hires.
• Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required and kept current.

Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors and meet department communication needs.
• Transcribe physician orders in the absence of CPOE/EMR systems.
• Verify that lab and radiology tests have been ordered and completed.
• Prepare patient records and unit supplies; assist with daily charting as needed.
• Assist nursing staff with indirect patient care within CNA-supervised scope.

Overview

Position: Monitor Technician

Department: Telemetry

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shifts Available: Days

Hours: 12 hour shifts

Location: Harlingen Medical Center - Harlingen, TX

Responsibilities

• The Monitor Tech is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting.
• Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors. Meets the communication needs of the department.
• Transcribes physician orders in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system.
• Verifies that lab tests and radiology tests have been ordered and done.
• Prepares and compiles records in Med/ Surg/ Telemetry. Orders supplies for the unit and prepares and completes each patient's chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis.
• Able to assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties as long as the activity does not distract from primary responsibility for dysrhythmia monitoring.
• *Note: May provide direct patient care under the direct supervision of the RN within scope of Certified Nursing Assistant if 1) possesses active CNA certification; 2) demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills and 3) is relieved of Monitor Technician duties during the time of assisting the RN.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent or related experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.
• Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Six months previous experience in Healthcare or as Monitor Technician.
