Job summary

North America Central School Bus is seeking a School Bus Monitor to support drivers in daily routes and ensure safe, orderly transport for students. You will assist with loading, unloading, and behavior management while maintaining clear communication with drivers and school staff.

Role requires a positive, professional attitude, punctuality for early morning and afternoon shifts, and basic computer skills to use company systems and devices. Training and safety meetings are provided.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work early morning and afternoon schedules.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, customer-focused attitude.
  • Basic computer and technology skills, or willingness to learn company systems and electronic devices.
  • Ability to follow company policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the driver in the safe operation of daily school bus routes.
  • Support student management and communicate behavioral concerns to the driver.
  • Assist with student loading and unloading, including students who require wheelchair lifts or other accommodations.
  • Help perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including child checks and safety equipment inspections.
  • Cooperate and communicate professionally with students, parents, school staff, and fellow employees.
  • Attend required safety meetings and training programs.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation procedures when necessary.
  • Maintain bus cleanliness, including sweeping, dusting, and cleaning windows.
  • Perform additional duties as required by location or contract needs.

Now Hiring School Bus Monitors (Bus Aides)!

Join our team and help provide a safe, positive transportation experience for students. As a School Bus Monitor, you will assist the driver with student management, loading and unloading, safety procedures, and daily route operations.

Job Responsibilities

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment screenings, including a DOT physical, dexterity testing, and drug screening where applicable.
  • Ability to assist with student evacuations and safety procedures.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with moving or supporting passengers and mobility equipment as needed.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing bus steps throughout the day.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school personnel, dispatch, and drivers.
  • Ability to observe and respond to safety concerns in a transportation environment.
