The School Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting bus drivers in providing on-going and emergency support to students (both ambulatory and non-ambulatory) while riding, loading and unloading the school bus to ensure the safety of all passengers. Responsibilities include helping students on and off the bus, ensuring students are seated safely, managing student behavior, assisting with special needs accommodations, and communicating effectively with school staff and parents as needed. This position is a split shift and guarantees 5 hours of work a day, 2.5 in the morning and 2.5 in the afternoon.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Must pass background check
Pre-Employment Drug Test
CERTIFICATION/LICENCES
Once employed, must be able to be maintain CPR and First Aid certifications for adults and children.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students and adults. Communicates clearly with drivers, students, parents, and school staff.
- Understand the proper use of child restrain systems used for transporting students with unique abilities.
- Patience and empathy, demonstrating understanding and patience with children of various ages and needs
- Good at keeping accurate records and reporting incidents
- Dependability and punctuality, being reliable and punctual in daily attendance and consistent in performing duties and responsibilities
KNOWLEDGE
- First Aid and CPR certification, with knowledge of basic first aid procedures and current CPR certification
- Behavior management: managing and guiding student behavior and enforcing bus rules to maintain a safe environment
- Problem-solving skills: quickly assess and resolve issues as they arise and strong decision-making abilities under pressure
- Understanding how to monitor student behavior and ensuring safety protocols are followed
- Use of safety equipment on the bus
- Proficient on student safety equipment
DUTIES
- Monitors students while on bus; maintains safety and order on the bus, ensures students wear seatbelts; provides
- Assists with the loading and unloading of students.
- Maintains cleanliness of bus by sweeping and removing all trash items from the bus interior.
- Performs post trip wipe-down of the interior of vehicle due to health or other emergency situations and concerns.
- Assists bus driver with routes, directions and while the vehicle is driving in reverse.
- Provides assistance during emergencies, evacuation planning and drills; provides knowledge and operates emergency window exits.
- Required to use any necessary electronic devices required by JFK: Bytecurve, ADP, and Samsera tablets etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
