Reporting

Reports to: Transportation Operations Manager and Transportation Supervisor.

Job Goal

To assist the bus driver in providing safe transportation for all students on the school bus.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately.
• Experience working with students who have special needs and identifying by classification.
• Basic knowledge of student behavior management and good communication skills.
• Training in safety for students in a transportation setting.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures, including medical, conduct, bus accidents, and evacuation.
• Physical ability to sit most of the day, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Attendance and punctuality are crucial.

Job Duties

• Arrive on time and be present at work every day.
• Maintain an attitude and demeanor that contributes to a harmonious and goodwill workplace.
• Interact professionally with students, staff, and school/district leaders.
• Assist the driver in loading and unloading students and securing all students in prescribed seating positions.
• Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the bus interior, checking all equipment.
• Stay familiar with student names, stops, stop times, and medical information and needs.
• Maintain a daily log of student behavior.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate student behavior.
• Assist substitute driver with route and procedures.
• Operate all equipment, restraint systems, and assistive devices in the prescribed manner.
• Attend approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings.
• Practice proper techniques and universal precautions for cleaning up body fluids.
• Comply with mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse, illegal harassment, or any criminal activity discovered.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
