Versant Media, publisher of CNBC Make It, seeks an experienced story editor to lead daily and enterprise coverage. You will sharpen pieces, improve structure and leads, and develop editorial franchises that engage ambitious readers in a fast-paced digital newsroom.

The role requires strong editorial judgment, high standards, and collaboration with reporters, producers and senior editors to deliver timely, useful journalism in a hybrid Englewood Cliffs setting.

Qualifications

• At least five years of editing experience in a digital newsroom or publishing environment.
• Exceptional writing, editing and copyediting skills with enterprise writing ability.
• Strong understanding of digital news production and journalistic standards.
• Ability to simplify complex topics for a broad audience.
• Experience editing short and long form with attention to structure, tone and legal standards.
• Proven ability to work quickly under deadline pressure and manage priorities.
• Collaborative team player with strong communication and editorial judgment.

Responsibilities

• Edit and publish stories accurately and clearly on deadline.
• Shape stories for structure, readability, flow, tone and standards.
• Write compelling headlines and leads aligned with CNBC Make It voice.
• Monitor news developments and identify timely trends and opportunities.
• Vet, shape and assign story ideas with reporters and editors.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery.
• Copy edit and fact check to maintain high journalistic standards.
• Contribute to editorial planning and social strategy.
