Job summary

Battelle Memorial Institute in San Antonio, TX seeks a Molecular Biologist I to join a dynamic team performing cutting-edge research in genetics and molecular biology within a government contract setting. You will conduct experiments on microbial, human, and animal biology, collect data, and contribute to technical evaluations of biologics and biological mechanisms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, or a related field.
• At least one year of professional experience performing nucleic acid extraction, purification, and quantification; PCR/qPCR; sequencing; and related molecular biology techniques.
• Ability to conduct experiments with written procedures and SOPs.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities; team player.
• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain government security clearances.
• Medical fitness to work with PPE and hazardous/infectious materials.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine laboratory procedures independently with guidance from senior scientists.
• Follow structured regulatory and quality frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001:2015).
• Support development of new methods or adaptation of published assays.
• Analyze and troubleshoot experiments; prepare data tables, figures, and interpretations for reports.
• Interact professionally with clients, leadership, and team members.
• Assist with materials inventory, equipment maintenance, and scheduling.
• Follow safety guidelines when handling hazardous/infectious materials.
• Some domestic travel may be required.
