Job summary

RD Industries, Inc. in Omaha, NE, is seeking a Mold Setter to install and set up molds for production on an injection molding line. The role runs Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with no flexible hours.

You will monitor processes to ensure product quality meets standards and support a culture of safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or GED, experience with molding or mechanical work, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Molding experience preferred, but mechanically inclined candidates considered.
  • Ability to read diagrams and apply process sheet settings.
  • Strong attention to detail and math skills are essential.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

  • Installs (sets up) molds and auxiliary equipment on the injection molding machine.
  • Operates hoist to lift injection molds.
  • Interprets waterline diagrams and installs waterlines per diagram.
  • Sets and adjusts mold die height for requirements.
  • Verifies nozzle size and replaces nozzle/tip when needed.
  • Reads process sheet and updates machine controllers accordingly.
  • Troubleshoots basic molding problems on the production floor.
  • Installs hot runner controllers and other peripheral devices as required.
  • Performs restarts after breaks and safely shuts down equipment when needed.

Summary

The Mold Setter installs molds in injection molding machines. Sets up established molding processes for production. Monitors molding processes to ensure product quality meets internal and customer standards.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Molding experience is preferred, but open to someone who is mechanically inclined (repairing small machines or small engine repair)
Essential Functions
  • Installs (sets up) molds and required auxiliary equipment in and on the injection molding machine using specified clamps, wrenches, and other tools as required.
  • Operates hoist used to lift injection mold.
  • Understands how to interpret waterline diagrams and installs waterlines to mold following the supplied diagram.
  • Understands how to set and adjust injection mold machine die height to accommodate specific injection mold requirements.
  • Understands how to check for proper nozzle orifice size and length. Change nozzle/tip if necessary.
  • Read and understand injection molding machine molding process sheet and incorporates process sheet settings into the injection molding machine’s micro‑processor.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic injection molding problems on the production floor.
  • Identifies and installs specific injection mold requirements such as hot runner controllers; and other peripheral devices as required.
  • Performs re‑starts, i.e., molding process has been previously established but the machine may have been shut down for breaks, etc. (see below).
  • Understands how to properly shut down injection molding equipment, i.e., purge barrel with purging compound closes all waterlines, turns off barrel temperatures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, self-motivation, attention to detail and be able to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

This job operates in production manufacturing warehouse. May be required to wear common (PPE) Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection.
