Job summary

Thunderbird Molding seeks a Mold Technician to support our Elgin, IL molding operations. You will set up molding machines, prepare molds for jobs, adjust temperatures and tonnage, and perform routine maintenance to keep production moving smoothly.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in mold setup, operation, and maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with various types of molds and molding machines.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Attention to detail for quality control.
• Effective communication to collaborate with different teams.

Responsibilities

• Machine set-up and controls.
• Lift operation.
• Prepare molds for scheduled jobs.
• Change inserts as needed.
• Change date code as needed.
• Ensure knockouts are proper length and pattern.
• Check water lines.
• Prepare thermolater and set temperatures as needed.
• Set clamp tonnage as needed.
• Set core pull sequence as needed.
• Set mold protection.
• Verify nozzle and orifice are of proper size.
• Set safety drop bar as needed.
• Purge barrel as needed.
• Prepare molds for storage by cleaning, removing water and spraying with rust protectant.
• Troubleshooting of molding machines that are running.
• May be required to perform additional duties as determined by Supervisor.
