Job summary

Sonoco Products Company in Chatham, NY is seeking a Tooling Technician to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on injection molds, troubleshoot mold issues, and support mold changeovers. You will operate machining equipment and perform precision bench work, documenting repair history in CMMS/IQMS systems.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma, 3–5 years of mold maintenance or related mechanical experience, and proficiency in reading mold prints and using metrology tools.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3–5 years mold maintenance, machining, or related mechanical experience.
• Ability to read mold prints, schematics and technical docs.
• Knowledge of milling, turning, grinding processes.
• Understanding of hydraulics/pneumatics and hot runner systems.
• Injection molding experience preferred.
• Strong metrology and dimensional inspection skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and standard repairs on injection molds.
• Troubleshoot mold issues and wear, venting, cooling problems.
• Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble molds with minimal supervision.
• Support mold changeovers and assist during startups and troubleshooting.
• Operate milling machines, lathes, grinders for repairs and mods.
• Conduct precision bench work: polishing, fitting, adjustments.
• Use metrology tools to verify dimensions and quality.
• Document maintenance activities in CMMS/IQMS systems.
• Communicate with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime.
