Altium Packaging in Sparta, Tennessee is seeking a Mold Changer to set up and operate compression, injection, and transfer molding machines to produce plastic parts per blueprints.

Responsibilities include reading specifications, aligning molds, connecting lines, adjusting temperatures and pressures, running test cycles, inspecting parts with gauges, and performing routine maintenance. Requires a high school diploma or GED and 2+ years blow molding or equivalent manufacturing experience.

• Positions, aligns, and secures mold components and machine accessories onto the press bed.

• Sets machine controls and adjusts forming pressure and curing time in mold.
• Starts machine to produce sample product and evaluates surface/ dimensional quality.
• Measures and inspects sample parts using gauges, micrometer, and microscope, and adjusts setup to fix defects.
• May repair and maintain machines and auxiliary equipment.
• Overtime may be required.

Job Description

The mold changer is responsible for setting molds and dies, and setting up and adjusting compression, injection, and transfer machines used to mold plastic materials to specified shape according to blueprints and designs.

Essential Function - Roles/Responsibilities

• Reads specifications to determine machine setup and prescribed temperature and time settings.
• Positions, aligns, and secures assembled mold or mold components, and machine accessories, onto machine press bed, according to guide marks, using hoist, power tools, and hand tools.
• Attaches connecting lines, for example air, oil, or water to mold, and adjusts controls to regulate mold temperature.
• Sets machine controls and turns dials to regulate specified machine forming pressure and plastic curing time in mold.
• Starts machine to produce sample product.
• Measures and visually inspects sample product for surface and dimensional defects, using microscope, micrometer, and gauges, and adjusts machine setup to eliminate defects.
• May also repair and maintain machines and auxiliary equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
• May also be designated according to type of machine set up as Compression-Molding-Machine Setter (plastic industry), Injection-Molding-Machine Setter (plastics prod ).
• Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.

Qualifications

High School Degree, GED, or equivalent 2+ years blow molding or similar manufacturing experience.
