Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles Health seeks a Mohs Technician to work under the Dermatology Director and Mohs Surgeon. You will perform staining, immunohistochemistry, and tissue processing while maintaining a safe lab per OSHA standards.

You will collaborate with faculty, residents, and staff, manage worklists, and travel to multiple sites as needed to support dermatology care and Mohs procedures.

Qualifications

• Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross
• Mohs Technician Certificate
• At least 6 months Mohs Tissue Technician laboratory experience
• Knowledge of CLIA laboratory protocol
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards
• Knowledge of CAP and JCAHO standards
• Print grossing sheets and labels for slides
• Perform routine staining procedures including operating and maintaining slide staining
• Embed and cut tissue and place on slides for staining
• Stain and cover slip slides for physician review
• Prepare for Mohs surgery by setting up cryostat, staining station, and supplies
• Follow specimen protocols and timeframes for embedding frozen specimens
• Float to other locations as needed

Responsibilities

• Prepare, label, and store slides meticulously
• Embed and cut tissue for slides and staining
• Stain and cover slip slides for physician review
• Set up cryostat and staining station for Mohs surgery
• Troubleshoot worklists and orders across departments
• Travel to other locations as needed
• Interact with faculty, residents, and clinical staff to resolve issues
