Job summary

Pratt Industries in Lewisburg, OH seeks a production operator to run the single-facer and assist wet-end and dry-end operations. You will perform setup, operation, cleanup, splices, and quality checks while following safety and housekeeping standards.

Responsibilities include monitoring production, labeling rolls, assisting in training, and implementing improvements. A high school diploma is required, with preference for corrugated industry experience and forklift certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: 6 months experience on the dry end of the corrugator.
  • Preferred: 6 months experience as a Double Backer Operator.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the single-facers to produce the highest level of production and quality.
  • Check wet end line-ups to verify correct roll stock is received and used.
  • Put rolls of paper in mill roll stands ensuring proper size and grade of paper to be run and make splices and paper changes as necessary.
  • Trim only the necessary amount of paper from the rolls when preparing for splices.
  • Remove roll stock from the machine when necessary and mark the proper size, grade, diameter and lineal footage on the roll and place core plugs in each end of the butt rolls.
  • Continuously monitor the board during runs to ensure quality and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
  • Clean starch pan, glue roll and single-facer area after changing flutes and at the end of the production week.
  • Take all paper off of cores of stub rolls.
  • Assist in the wet end training of the double backer and dry end personnel.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required
  • Candidates are preferred who offer the following:
    • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry
    • 6 months experience on the dry end of the corrugator
    • 6 months experience as a Double Backer Operator
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

  • Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
  • Product layouts and production specifications
  • Product quality specifications
  • Quality standards
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level is usually loud.

Pay starts at $18.15, based on experience
