Job summary

USO Building Co./US-Offsite is seeking a Commercial Pre-Construction Engineer/Estimator in Redding, CA. This role focuses on early planning, budgeting, and coordination for multifamily modular projects, turning concepts into accurate budgets and clear bid packages.

Regular site visits accompany full-time office work, with relocation assistance available. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and skilled with drawings, quantities, subcontractor pricing, and value engineering.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of construction estimating or preconstruction experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, scopes, and documents.
• Strong Excel and estimating tools; familiarity with price proposals and bid packages.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, scopes for estimating and preconstruction needs.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs, budgets, estimates, and cost comparisons.
• Assist with subcontractor solicitation, bid packages, and scope leveling.
• Identify scope gaps, cost risks, and value-engineering opportunities.
• Support preconstruction planning for modular, site, and vertical scopes.
• Collaborate with Preconstruction, PMs, designers, vendors, and subs to clarify pricing.
• Prepare estimate summaries, bid tabs, budgets, and supporting docs.
• Track pricing updates, lead times, and outstanding preconstruction items.
• Assist with RFIs, design coordination, and early cost impacts.
• Ensure smooth handoff from Preconstruction to Operations with clear docs.
