Job summary

SSAB in Mobile, AL is seeking a maintenance technician to replace tundish linings and install refractory components. You will work with the refractory team to keep equipment running, maintain a clean work area, and follow safety and documentation procedures.

The role requires a high school diploma, mechanical aptitude, basic computer skills, and good teamwork. Experience with refractories or Microsoft 365 is a plus; meetings and trainings are part of the role.

Responsibilities

• Replace/install working linings and safety linings in tundishes.
• Install tundish refractory furniture, temp probes, stopper rod, stopper rod mechanism, chop gate, SEN and gate.
• Assist in refractory ladle/EAF installations as needed/scheduled by the refractory team leader.
• Maintain a clean, organized and stocked work area.
• Utilize established documentation systems (logs, emails, paperwork, etc.) to communicate all relevant information to the refractory and management team.
• Work closely with the refractory team leader and shift coordinator to minimize down time and improve equipment reliability.
• Participating in improvement and organization projects.
• Ensure safe operation of tundishes and participate in SSAB safety programs, audits and reviews.
• Complete all training within designated timeframes and attend all required meetings.
• Understand and support the company’s goals and values and adhere to company, department, safety, quality, environmental, and ethics policies and procedures.
