Job summary

Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus seeks a Mobility Tech to assist patients with mobility and positioning in acute care settings, following the MOVE protocol under nursing and therapy guidance.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 1 year of acute care experience and CPR certification. It is a part-time position (~24 hours/week) with travel up to 20% and weekday/weekend coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year of acute care/hospital/patient care/rehabilitation preferred.
• CPR certification (American Heart Association) required.

Responsibilities

• Provides mobility opportunities for patients, including bed mobility, upright sitting, transfers, wheelchair use and ambulation using MOVE protocol.
• Reports and documents routine care and any changes or unusual incidents observed in patient condition to team and unit staff.
• Maintains a safe, clean environment; ensures patient belongings are within reach; uses safety alarms and reports device malfunctions.
• Provides clear patient education about mobility importance, vertical positioning, fall prevention using video, written, pictorial, demonstration, and verbal methods.
• Collaborates with patient and mobility team for MOVE progression.
• Takes initiative to complete work and meets productivity standards.

The mobility tech assists patients in mobility and positioning, activities of daily living, and basic care within critical, medical-surgical, or other acute care hospital units. Completes documentation of mobility using an assessment scale. Strives to continue, improve and maintain patient satisfaction results and functional outcomes. Is flexible per needs of the patient and takes direction from the nursing and therapy staff. Is responsible to develop as a peer leader, learning effective clinical decision-making skills, safe mobility techniques, appropriate use of mobility equipment and is capable of teaching these skills to others.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• Part-time, 24 hours per week. May work weekdays and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Provides mobility opportunities for the various appropriate patients, including bed mobility, upright sitting, transfers, wheelchair use and ambulation using the MOVE protocol following nursing assessment and instruction.
• Reports and documents routine care and any changes and unusual incidents observed in condition or behavior of patients to team and to unit staff. Complies with and has a working knowledge of mobility, movement, and positioning precautions. Maintains a safe and clean environment by straightening rooms and equipment, ensuring patient belongings are in reach, utilizing safety alarms and reporting any malfunctioning devices or equipment. Complies with and has a working knowledge of mobility, movement and positioning precautions.
• Provides clear and effective patient education about the importance of mobility, vertical positioning progressing from in to out of bed, and fall prevention. Methods of education include video, written, pictorial, demonstration, and verbal.
• Reports and documents routine care and any changes and unusual incidents observed in condition or behavior of patients to team and to unit staff.
• Collaborates with patient and mobility team for continued MOVE progression.
• Takes initiative to complete work and meets productivity standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma/GED Preferred
• 1 Year Acute Care/Hospital/Patient Care/Rehabilitation Preferred
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) American Heart Association Required
