Job summary

City of Greeley is seeking a CDL driver to support the Gallop program in a part-time role with potential full-time conversion. The Mobility Coach Operator I will transport passengers safely within the Greeley‑Evans Transit area and report to the Mobility Manager, with shifts including evenings and weekends.

CDL training is provided if needed. Current CDL Class B‑P2 with Passenger endorsement is preferred; training and benefits are offered.

  • Your Role: As a Mobility Coach Operator I, you will provide safe, timely, and efficient passenger transportation within the Greeley‑Evans Transit service area, reporting to the Mobility Manager.
  • Schedule: Part‑time initially with the potential to move into a full‑time position; must be available Monday‑through‑Saturday, including weekends, holidays, and evenings; shifts may vary, averaging 20 hours per week.

We offer CDL training for those that do not have a CDL at the time of hire. As a condition of receiving City‑funded CDL license training, employees are required to repay the City of Greeley up to $3,500 if they resign or are terminated for cause within 24 months of their start date.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class B‑P2 Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Ability to pass and maintain DOT Physical Requirements.
  • Participation in FDA and DOT mandated Drug and Alcohol testing programs.

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Preferred
  • Previous Bus Operator experience.
  • Military veterans.
  • Passenger Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) certification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of FTA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to complete ongoing Gallop bus driver training programs.
  • Excellent knowledge of ADA regulations and the ability to operate paratransit services.
  • Exceptional customer service while adhering to department and city policies.
  • Ability to adhere to seasonal service demands, including overtime and shift requirements.
  • Knowledge of streets, locations, restaurants, and hotels of the Greeley‑Evans area.
  • Ability to safely operate a bus under adverse weather conditions.
  • Skilled in basic computer operations, word processing and spreadsheet software.
Essential Functions
  • Operate transit buses along designated routes, adhering to schedules and prioritizing safety.
  • Complete daily pre‑ and post‑trip inspections in accordance with DOT, FTA regulations and city policy.
  • Monitor service performance, respond to mechanical or route delays, and provide support to fellow operators.
  • Provide high‑quality customer service, assist with boarding, and ensure ADA compliance.
  • Respond appropriately in emergencies, ensuring passenger safety and completing required documentation.
  • Conduct basic vehicle upkeep, including refueling (CNG), cleaning, and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance of transit amenities and identify hazards.
  • Prepare incident/accident reports and documents public complaints accurately.
  • Communicate service updates and concerns with supervisors and peers.
  • Support route planning and scheduling activities.
  • Provide informal guidance and coaching to new or current operators.
  • Use transit technologies such as tablets, fare systems, AVL, radios, and destination signs.
  • Maintain professionalism, clean appearance, and clear radio communication.
  • Promote a culture of safety by reporting hazards and ensuring safe environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Primarily performed in a transit bus, with exposure to urban, suburban, and occasionally rural traffic conditions.
  • Drivers are exposed to varying weather conditions and temperature fluctuations.
  • Constant traffic moving vehicles, mechanical parts, heavy to moderate traffic noise, passenger conversations, engine sounds, and external environmental noise are common.
  • Frequent interaction with the public, including individuals with disabilities, seniors, children, and occasionally confrontational passengers.
  • May be required to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and call‑in shifts.
Physical Requirements
  • Mobility: Enter and exit the vehicle, walk, climb stairs, and navigate uneven surfaces.
  • Strength: Occasionally lift or move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Endurance: Remain seated for extended periods while operating the vehicle.
  • Dexterity: Operate vehicle controls requiring manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
  • Flexibility: Frequently bend, reach, stoop, turn, and kneel as required.
  • Vision: Sufficient visual acuity, with or without correction.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear and understand verbal communication and warning signals.
