JOB SUMMARY
To support growth of the company, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join our team! This is a dedicated on-site position, and we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. If you are looking for a new place to call home, we would love to talk to you! The Mobile Trailer Technician II will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. Work is performed at the customer's site. The Mobile Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists senior technicians while continuing to learn advanced mechanical skills. A successful technician complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.
DUTIES
- Perform preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment with minimal supervision.
- Document work according to standards, upload pictures, and complete repair orders using company-issued devices and applications.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer systems including brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
- Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
- Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply knowledge from training and experience to perform job duties; evaluate technical information.
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members, assessing needs and resolving issues.
- Manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
- Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in the field.
- Respond to dispatch requests for unscheduled service and maintenance.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Work independently, managing daily schedules efficiently.
- Maintain high productivity levels within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management via email or phone for approvals and notes.
- Comply with safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Participate in safety training.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with customers and vendors.
- Conduct safety checks and inspections on company vehicles.
- Adhere to company policies and stay updated on safety protocols.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment including brakes, air systems, liftgates, and more.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and consider solutions.
- Inspect and test equipment using specialized instruments.
- Assist senior technicians with diagnostics.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in trailers or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Own and supply necessary hand tools.
- OEM training and certifications preferred.
- Complete company-required training.
- Must pass DOT background screening and physical; current DOT medical card preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.
OBTAIN WITHIN 18 MONTHS
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
- ASE 608/609, T4, T5, T6, T7 certifications
