Job summary

Ethos is seeking a Mobile Specimen Collection Specialist to collect patient specimens in Long Term Care facilities. You will collect nasal swabs, blood, and urine, ensure specimen integrity, and assist with data entry and shipping to the lab.

The role requires 2+ years in specimen collection, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work in a remote management setting with limited supervision. HIPAA compliance is essential. Training and PPE are provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of specimen collection or medical/laboratory experience.
  • Phlebotomy certificate preferred, CPT certification if required.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license; must be 21+ with reliable transportation.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect anterior nasal swabs for COVID-19 testing according to Ethos protocols.
  • Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture when applicable at assigned locations.
  • Process urine collections in Laboratory Information System (LIS) when applicable.
  • Maintain specimen integrity per SOPs and reference materials.
  • Track specimens with requisition forms and logs; verify patient data.
  • Prepare specimens for shipment to the laboratory and update EMR/LIS as needed.
  • Attend required meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Monday, Thursday 8am - 3pm; 30 min lunch (2-3 clinics in Rogers, AR)

Wednesday 8am - 2pm; 30 min lunch (1 clinic in Holiday Island, AR)

Job Overview

The Mobile Specimen Collection Specialist is responsible for collection of patient specimens in Long Term Care facilities. Specimens collected to include nasal swabs, urine samples, and blood draws. At times specimen collection may entail picking up other bodily specimens from the facilities in an assigned route. Ensuring integrity of the specimen, obtaining accompanying patient information, shipping specimens, to the laboratory, entering patient information into EMR, or LIS system as needed. Requesting missing patient information from the clinic staff, correcting processing errors and other general office tasks as deemed necessary by Field Operations Supervisor of LTC.

Essential Functions
  • Collect anterior nasal swabs for Covid – 19 testing following Ethos collection protocols
  • Obtain blood specimen collection from patients following Ethos venipuncture protocols if applicable at the location(s) assigned
  • Process urine collections in Laboratory Information System if applicable at the location(s) assigned
  • Maintains specimen integrity by following Ethos standard operating procedures and reference materials provided by Field Operations Manager of LTC
  • Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and completing requisition forms as well as completion of any Specimen collection logs
  • Verify patient, label specimens, and prepare for shipment to the laboratory
  • Maintains safe, secure, and clean work environment by following standard operating procedures
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities & training provided by Ethos
  • Adheres to Ethos professional standards and policies, meeting federal, state, and local requirements
  • Greets patients and instructs them in proper specimen collection method. Maintains positive interaction with facility staff and positive representation of Ethos mission and values
  • Transporting collected specimens to a designated location by a designated time
  • Submitting accurate payroll time sheets and work/travel mileage logs to Supervisor
  • Attend requisite Zoom meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Education And Experience Requirements
  • Two (2) or more years of specimen collection, medical, or laboratory experience required
  • Phlebotomy Certificate Preferred, but not required. Sufficient Phlebotomy experience to sit for CPT certification, if ever required by client
  • Valid state-issued Driver’s License; must be 21 years of age with reliable transportation
  • Proof of Insurance
  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing
  • Must be able to work under remote management with limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures, techniques, and well-defined policies
  • Ability to perform tasks with sound judgment
  • Ability to train new staff on Ethos collection procedures
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test
  • Ability to utilize technology to complete work in a remote environment: update personnel documents and complete online training and utilize Aps on a smart phone to clock in and out
Physical Requirements
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, CDC “Up to Date” status required
  • Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)
  • Position requires sitting, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing
  • Work will be performed in a patient facing environment and exposes the incumbent to normal bodily fluids, including biohazard materials
