This position can be located in Sacramento or Riverside County.

Are you interested in collaborating broadly with diverse partners to inform climate policies and investments that address climate change, promote equity, and improve quality of life for all Californians? Join the Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division’s Climate Investments Benefits Section to ensure California Climate Investments and other State funding reduce greenhouse gases and benefit disadvantaged communities.

The section seeks an Air Resources Engineer with strong technical and project management skills to guide and provide expertise for CARB’s Low Carbon Transportation Incentives Program and the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program. Responsibilities include overseeing incentive programs for zero-emission and near-zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure, and managing California Climate Investments activities.

Your main duties will include acting as a liaison to State agencies, developing quantification methods, maintaining emission factor databases, assessing community benefits, and establishing reporting requirements. You will need to demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, professionalism, and excellent communication skills in reports, memos, and presentations. Travel within California is required.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid work and telework, subject to agency policies. Starting July 1, 2025, employees will be required to report to the office four days a week. In-office attendance may be necessary based on operational needs. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. All employees may need to report to the headquarters at their own expense.

Minimum Requirements

Salary Range: $6,299.00 - $11,798.00 depending on classification level.

Desirable Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have a scientific background or experience in emission profiles, inventories, mobile sources, data analysis, or related fields. Strong communication skills, ability to develop relationships, and experience with environmental and economic benefit assessments are essential. Knowledge of mobile source policies, infrastructure, and data management tools is a plus.
