Job Title: Mobile Phlebotomist

The Mobile Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing patients' blood at locations other than a Patient Service Center or hospital.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Interpret verbal and written physician orders.
  2. Obtain blood specimens from patients using appropriate blood collection equipment (needles, lancets, etc.) and follow safe practices according to the Laboratory Specimen Collection Manual and Phlebotomy Procedure Manual in a timely manner.
  3. Work respectfully with the mobile scheduler, ensuring proper communication is relayed daily. Keep patients informed of any delays.
  4. Handle and process laboratory specimens according to the Accession Procedure Manual, including operation of a centrifuge and proper specimen transfer and storage.
  5. Demonstrate efficient time utilization in the patient home, at the home base, and in preparation for and travel to and from the visit.
  6. Perform skills independently according to department procedures. Research and/or obtain needed information prior to the patient visit.
  7. Keep informed of current communications and trends within the department.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within SLUHN Entity and ensure proper release of information.
  9. Review and comply with all Network and departmental policies and procedures.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Ability to operate a motor vehicle within the St. Luke’s University Health Network service area. Must be able to sit for up to two hours, perform manual dexterity tasks such as palpating veins, grasping, twisting, and turning. Ability to lift and carry objects up to twenty pounds, stoop, bend, and stabilize/uncooperative outpatients. Must read, write, and speak fluent English. Sensory requirements include touch, hearing, and sight.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred. Graduate from an accredited phlebotomy school with at least 100 successful blood draws.

Training and Experience:

Minimum of two years of phlebotomy experience required; three to five years preferred. Basic computer skills required. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Strong customer service focus. Bilingual in English/Spanish or Arabic preferred. Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation required.
