Job summary

Team Elmer's is seeking a full-time mobile mechanic to support our Ludington and Manistee plants. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair trucks and heavy equipment in both field and shop settings, prioritizing safety and cost effectiveness.

Requirements include a CDL A, 3+ years of mobile maintenance experience, and strong welding/computer skills. You will work with Maintenance Manager Plus and MS Office, and contribute to reliable equipment operation across locations.

Qualifications

  • CDL A license with clean driving record preferred.
  • 3+ years of mobile mechanic experience highly valued.
  • HS diploma or GED required; strong mechanical knowledge.
  • Proficiency with Diagnostic tools and maintenance software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and perform repairs in field and shop environments.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble equipment with hand tools and hoists.
  • Read manuals and blueprints; ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Weld, fabricate, and repair components as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate findings clearly.

Job description

Team Elmer's is looking to fill a full-time opening for a mobile mechanic that will cover our Ludington and Manistee plants. In the field and at times in the shop, this position will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose, repair and inspect trucks and heavy construction equipment. All while being done in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance.
  • Build, rebuild and repair conveyors, crushers, screens, heavy equipment, etc. in a pit environment.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Dismantle and reassemble trucks and/or heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Operate and inspect trucks, machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Strong welding and fabrication skills.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Perform assessments and repairs related to plant specific maintenance, as needed.
  • Diagnose any mechanical, electrical, other breakdown or failure.
  • Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the components parts and systems.
  • Know and follows all OSHA, MIOSHA, MSHA and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License A
  • Clean driving record for past 3 years
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 3 or more years previous work experience as a mechanic, preferably as a mobile mechanic
  • Strong mechanical sense in a wide variety of skills (hydraulics, engines, electrical, braking system, etc).
  • Welding skills, certifications preferred but not necessary
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills required (Maintenance Manager Plus software and Microsoft Office software)
