Job summary

City of Bloomington, IN seeks an EMT/MIHP-oriented professional to provide direct, out-of-hospital care and coordinate social services for complex patients. You will work with MIHP partners to ensure continuity of care for 911 responses and ED visitors.

The role requires EMT certification, CPR, and at least one year in health-related fields, with preference for public health or social work training. Safe driving credentials required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in emergency medicine, public health, social work, or related field preferred.
• One-year experience as an EMT, public health, EMS, health screenings, or similar; preference for community paramedicine/MIHP.
• Current National Registry or Indiana EMT certification and CPR; mental health first aid or paramedic training preferred.
• Formal training in public health, social work, or paramedicine is a plus.
• Must have or obtain valid Indiana driver’s license with emergency vehicle operation training within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides emergency medical care at EMT or Paramedic level, including patient assessments, follow-up, treatment, and vaccinations.
• Contacts and helps patients enroll in social services to close gaps in care.
• Schedules and visits patients for social ecological assessments and follow-ups.
• Responds to 9-1-1 calls as dispatched by the Monroe County Central Dispatch Center.
• Interacts with ED staff, care management, and other emergency providers to coordinate care.
• Analyzes historic emergency calls to identify outreach needs.
• Completes required training and documents findings.
• Evaluates program effectiveness and suggests improvements.
• Processes referrals and assigns appropriate providers.
