Job summary

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West is seeking a physically capable individual to perform a variety of manual tasks and operate light equipment as part of our operations. The role requires the ability to perform outdoor labor and operate small power tools under supervision.

Appointment is Probational for up to 24 months. The salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Official job specifications are provided by the State Civil Service.

• Performs labor duties during off-season and inclement weather days by cutting trees, picking up paper and trash.

OUR MISSION

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

This position provides physical effort to accomplish a variety of manual tasks and skilled light equipment operation.

Agency preferred qualification: Must have valid driver's license.

No experience or training is required.

Job Duties

• Operates motorized equipment, including zero-turning-radius commercial riding lawn mowers, push lawnmowers, line trimmers, and other equipment to support operations under the jurisdiction of the Authority.
• Operates small handheld power equipment such as pole saws, chainsaws, and blowers.
• Assists mechanic with minor repairs to equipment as required, including disassembling and reassembling parts, and lubricating and fueling equipment.
• Assists Foreman A in ensuring minor repairs are performed, and routine user maintenance is completed as scheduled and/or required.
• Drives crew trucks towing trailers on and between work sites.
• Performs labor duties during off-season and inclement weather days by cutting trees, picking up paper and trash, and using mowers and weed trimmers.
• Performs a wide variety of physical labor functions, such as moving, loading, and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment.

Appointment Type: Probational - up to 24 months
