MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1: Class D, Chauffeurs License will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2: Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY: Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY is $21.05/hourly.

Function Statement:
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in DISTRICT 07/ UNIT 710 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to HIGHWAY FOREMAN 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
Responsibilities:
50% Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:
40% Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower. Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations. Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw. Performs manual tasks such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of Asphaltic Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete Pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as need to accomplish the department’s mission.
5% Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacturer’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator--Light by the requirement to operate larger mobile equipment with more complicated operating and handling characteristics.
Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.
