Job summary

Slaymaker Rentals seeks a Mobile Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our lift, excavator, and backhoe fleet. You will perform advanced diagnostics in shop and on customer sites, mentoring junior techs and supporting continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Proven mechanic experience with heavy equipment, diesel, or related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, diesel, and mechanical systems.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Medical Card required.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
• Shop and field work environments are required.
• Preferred: vocational/technical certs, welding, or HVAC knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools.
• Provide field service support at customer job sites and occasional equipment retrieval.

• Communicate with Service Manager and customers about repairs and timelines.

About the Role:

The Mobile Equipment Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation for both customers and internal use. This position performs advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance in both shop and field environments.

In addition, this role serves as a technical leader by mentoring and supporting junior technicians while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate is highly skilled, self-motivated, and committed to safety, efficiency, and delivering service that exceeds expectations.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform advanced repairs and maintenance on aerial and dirt equipment with minimal supervision


• Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools (multimeters, code scanners, etc.)


• Provide field service support, including customer jobsite repairs and occasional equipment retrieval


• Mentor and assist in training junior technicians to support team development


• Order parts, manage work orders, and track repair progress accurately


• Communicate effectively with the Service Manager and customers regarding repairs and timelines


• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards and company procedures


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment


• Support overall service operations and perform additional duties as assigned
