Job summary

Gravity IT Resources is seeking a Software Development Manager for Mobile Technologies in Miami, FL, a hybrid role leading a team building large-scale React Native apps for a 3M+ user base.

You will own the mobile platform's technical direction, shape a modular Superapp-style architecture, and drive end-to-end delivery from app structure to store releases. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership and architectural excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 8+ years software engineering experience, including production mobile apps.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and architecture of React Native applications across iOS and Android, balancing product velocity, performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability
• Design and evolve a modular, Superapp-style mobile architecture with clear feature boundaries and reusable services
• Lead adoption of modern React Native and Expo practices, including New Architecture concepts and native escape hatches
• Define and operate a safe over-the-air update strategy with Expo Updates / EAS Update
• Own mobile build and release engineering, including CI/CD tooling and app store releases
• Act as a hands-on technical leader: participate in design, review PRs, prototype high-leverage work

Job: Software Development Manager – Mobile Technologies

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a Software Development Manager for Mobile Engineering to lead the team responsible for the architecture, development, delivery, and operation of large-scale React Native mobile applications supporting a 3M+ user install base. In this role, you will lead and grow engineers while staying close to the code—shaping architecture, reviewing critical changes, and working directly with the team to solve complex technical and production challenges.

You will own the technical direction of the mobile platform and help evolve it toward a modern, modular (Superapp-style) architecture that can support multiple products, teams, and customer journeys. You’ll help define how React Native and Expo are used end-to-end—from app structure and native integrations to CI/CD, over-the-air updates, observability, performance, and App Store / Google Play delivery. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Platform, and engineering leadership to translate business priorities into a mobile platform that can move quickly without sacrificing quality or maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and architecture of React Native applications across iOS and Android, balancing product velocity, performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability
• Design and evolve a modular, Superapp-style mobile architecture with clear feature boundaries, shared platform services, and reusable capabilities (authentication, navigation, analytics, experimentation, notifications, design system components, etc.)
• Lead adoption and best practices for modern React Native and Expo, including React Native New Architecture, Expo SDK, Expo Modules, and appropriate native escape hatches where platform-specific functionality is required
• Define and operate a safe over-the-air update strategy (Expo Updates / EAS Update), including runtime compatibility, release channels, staged rollouts, rollback, and clear rules for when a native store release is required
• Own mobile build and release engineering, including CI/CD tooling (EAS Build/Submit or equivalent), code signing, App Store and Google Play releases, release automation, and environment management
• Act as a hands-on technical leader: participate in design sessions, review critical pull requests, prototype/code high-leverage work, and jump into difficult debugging or production issues alongside the team
• Drive mobile performance and quality through measurable engineering practices (startup time, rendering performance, bundle size, memory use, crashes, ANRs, network behavior, and overall reliability)
• Establish strong observability and operational practices for mobile, including crash reporting, logging, release health, analytics, and rapid diagnosis of production regressions
• Create architecture standards and engineering guardrails for navigation, state management, data access, offline behavior, deep linking, feature flags, testing, dependency management, and native module usage
• Partner with backend and platform teams to design mobile-friendly APIs and service contracts; collaborate with Product and Design to deliver cohesive experiences across multiple mobile products and customer journeys
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineers; provide clear technical feedback, set expectations, and ensure meaningful career growth paths
• Continuously improve team execution and developer experience by reducing build friction, improving automation/testing, simplifying local development, and eliminating unnecessary process

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building and operating production mobile applications
• 2+ years leading or managing software development teams while remaining technically engaged
• Deep experience with React Native, React, and TypeScript/JavaScript, including shipping a shared codebase to both iOS and Android
• Experience architecting large or multi-team mobile applications using modular architecture, shared packages/platform layers, monorepos, or Superapp-style patterns
• Strong experience with Expo and the modern Expo ecosystem (Expo SDK and EAS services such as Build, Submit, and Update); experience with expo-updates is especially valuable
• Understanding of React Native New Architecture concepts (Fabric, TurboModules, JSI/Codegen) and how they affect library selection, performance, and native integrations
• Experience designing safe mobile release strategies across App Store / Google Play releases and over-the-air JavaScript/asset updates
• Strong understanding of mobile CI/CD, automated testing, code signing, environment management, release automation, and production support
• Experience with mobile observability and performance tooling (crash reporting, release health, diagnosing production performance issues)
• Strong understanding of client/server architecture and APIs (REST and/or GraphQL), authentication, caching, network resilience, and mobile-specific API concerns
• Strong communication skills and the ability to make architecture decisions clear to engineers, product partners, and other technology leaders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building and maintaining systems in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)
